Autumn in the Cape Winelands is a beautiful time of the year. The weather is mild. It’s still too early for the rain to set in, so the sky is as blue as the clouds are white. Years ago, I think I was still a student, I recall sitting in a white garden chair in our garden, reading, with the fresh peels of an orange on the table beside me. My mother was playing the piano and fragments of her favourite Chopin nocturne drifted out through the open door and into the garden. This scene somehow how embodies the colours and sounds of autumn.
